I saw a screening of a short film I was involved in. Back then it was still untitled - it was the "North Korean Spy Project". My sister and I were involved and I was blown away by the film. Blown away because it was so much better than I expected.
The short film "Goodbye Kim Hyun Hee" is a coming of age story about this HK Teenager who fantasies about the North Korean spy Kim Hyun Hee. She was responsible for blowing up a South Korean commercail flight, killing over 100 people. She was a mysterious and glamourous figure in history, as she was a beauty and indoctrinated into believing the North Korean cause was just. The HK Teenager is infatuated with this figure and neglects his own girlfriend. He realizes that his obsession is merely fantasy and he is not in touch with reality.
I made it sound way too complicated. It's just a good coming of age story - funny and light with a good narrative.
The other short films that we saw were just slow, pretensious and crap. I am so relieved that the one I was involved in was actually funny and good.
Jenny was great in it, all the actors were well cast. You can see the different film styles the director was going for and it was actually entertaining.
Between this and Cabot Lane, wow, I just realized I'm involved in stuff! Creative, fun stuff outside of my job of directing and writing my own plays.
How the hell did I get here?

Man In Black
We performed Cabot Lane earlier tonight. We were all nervous - and we contemplated having a shot of tequila each before going onstage.
Misha, Wendy, Han and Kyla had nothing to worry about - I heard them from backstage and they sounded great. Me on the other hand... I felt off onstage. I was caught between not knowing my lines perfectly and reading - which is awkward. Tsk, tsk. I should have gone full throttle with the line learning (I only had 4 pages) but... sigh.
I ended the play on a strange note: "see your thoughts and hear your visions" as opposed to "hear your thoughts and see your visions."
I think that might have changed the meaning of the play a little.
We all ended up having a shot of tequila each afterwards which we needed.
The space was nice and there were alot of great people there from the theatre community to support us and just be fab theatre people. Arvin, Molly, Daniel, Kat, Adam etc. It was a good crowd and Le Rideau is a great space. Overall the experience was good, I just wished I hit a home run instead of a wobbly run to second base.
In the end though, Tanya told me the play wasn't about me (oh yeah...) it's about the play and I think it was well served by Tina and the cast.

Cabot Lane
I'm involved in a playreading performance of Cabot Lane - a new play by Kyla Seals. It's going to be on next Friday and I found out today I will be working with Miss Mischa (this time in a speaking part!!!)
It was great to be able to work with adults and as an actor after nearly working year long with children at Faust. I need to switch gears every now and again for my sanity. The director Tina was intense and passionate about the play which was great. Let's see how this turns out!

So I've now joined Facebook and it was amazing. In one morning I got into contact with people I haven't seen since high school. Jeez, it's amazing how fast people just got connected to each other!
Mates from Shatin College, Royal Holloway, The University of Hong Kong, former colleauges at Faust...man.
I've had my doubts about Facebook, thinking it was a MySpace rip off but it's actually very userfriendly and the main point of it is to connect with people, real people as opposed to "AzzKicker2134" or "lonelygirl15" or something silly like that. I see people's real names and that is refreshing.

A Long Day
I spend all day at the theatre supervising 6 shows performed by Kindergarten children. On a Sunday. My eyes are drooping and my mouth is drooling on the keyboard and I so desperately want sleep.
Performnaces went well and it was much smoother and faster than last year. The kids were cute and several times I was reminded of why I work in drama education: that the children are actually learning something, learning self - confidence and performance skills and the ability to at least be still for 15 minutes.
